Monroe Fire Department Retains Prestigious Class 1 Rating with its Highest Score Ever
Mayor Jamie Mayo, the Monroe City Council, Monroe Fire Chief Terry L. Williams, and Public Works Director Tom Janway announce today the Monroe Fire Department has retained its prestigious Class 1 Fire Rating, issued by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana, with an all-time high score of 91.52. The department was surveyed in May 2016 and received word of the results earlier this week. A formal press conference is being held 11:30am today at the Monroe Public Safety Center, located at 1810 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
Mayor Jamie Mayo says, "I'm proud to say our Monroe Fire Department has not only retained its Class 1 Rating, we scored our highest score ever. This is what happens when the mayor, city council and departments such as fire and public works forge a united effort to accomplish goals that benefit our entire city. More than 35,000 communities in our country have a Public Fire Protection Classification, ranging from 1 to 10, with 1 being the very best that a fire department can have. We should be Monroe Proud to have one of the best fire departments in the nation!"
The Monroe Fire Department scored a 91.52 on the 100 point survey conducted under the authority of R.S. 22:1460. It includes an assesment of MFD's ability to 1) Receive and handle fire alarms; 2) Our Engine/Ladder service, equipment, response to fires, training and available firefighters; and, our 3) Water supply available for fire suppression. The purpose of the survey was to gather information to determine the proper Public Fire Protection Classification for the City of Monroe. This Classification will be used by member companies of the P.I.A.L. to develop fire insurance premiums. Having a Class 1 Rated fire department helps lower insurance premiums for Monroe property owners.
Chief Terry Williams says, "I am proud of the men and women of the Monroe Fire Department for a job well done! The rating process has proven to be a classic example of how all city departments working together as a team can work for the betterment of the city as a whole."
New Departmental Logo
Chief Williams adds, "The fire services is constantly changing. After seeing the hard work displayed over the past three years in preparation for the rating. I feel it is time for the department to take on a new image in order to refresh and continue motivating our employees in achieving new heights. That's why I am pleased to also unveil a new Monroe Fire departmental logo designed by Monroe firefighter Rodney Noland, with the assistance of a departmental committee."
