Monroe Fire Department: 2019 Fire Prevention Week

Mayor Jamie Mayo, the Monroe City Council, and Fire Chief Terry Williams announce our
annual Fire Prevention Week October 6-12, 2019. This year’s theme: Not every hero wears a
cape. Plan and Practice your Escape!


Fire Chief Terry Williams says, “In addition to school and senior citizen facility visits, we have
a host of events scheduled throughout the week.”
Mayor Jamie Mayo adds, “We want residents of all ages to be properly informed about fire
safety so that we can prevent the loss of life and minimize damage in the event of a fire.”


KEY EVENTS

  • City-Wide Fire Drill – 9 A.M. Wednesday,October 9th. Local schools, businesses, and
    etc are encouraged to practice their fire evacuation drill.
  • Lexington Elementary Fire Safety Truck/Talk – 9:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 9th.
    Following the event, Fire Chief Terry Williams and Mayor Jamie Mayo will have lunch
    with students.
  • Fire Extravaganza – 9 A.M. Thursday, October 10th at the Fire Station #4, located at
    300 Forrest Avenue. The large student event will include live fire demonstrations, a
    bunker gear race and fire extinguisher contest for teachers, school fire safety week poster
    contest winners will receive a new bike, and a special visit from the State Farm mascot.
  • 12th Annual 5K Run/Walk – The race begins at 8:00 A.M. at Forsythe Park on
    Saturday, October 12th. There is NO COST to participate. Participants can pre-register by
    going to http://mfd5k2019.eventbrite.com or register on-site beginning at 6:30 A.M. on
    Saturday.
