David Barnes Retires as Director of Administration
Mayor Jamie Mayo announces the retirement of City of Monroe Director of Administration David Barnes, effective Friday, May 12, 2017. Barnes will be formally recognized at a retirement celebration 2 pm Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Monroe City Hall.
Mayor Jamie Mayo comments, “We truly appreciate the outstanding service of David Barnes and his commitment to helping make our city the best that it could be. Under his leadership, the City of Monroe made numerous advancements in technology and reached historic levels in fiscal management with a record high budget surplus and A+ bond rating. We wish him the best in his retirement.”
David Barnes says, “I truly appreciate the support of the Mayor for allowing me to have the wonderful opportunity of working in my capacity as Director of Administration for the City of Monroe. I am thankful and greatly appreciate the team of dedicated city employees who have worked with me to make our city a great place to live and raise my grandchildren.”
David Barnes has spent over 40 years in service to the citizens of Monroe. He started working summer jobs in the street department when he was in high school. He has worked under two forms of government and for six different mayors. He has served as Management Information Systems (MIS) Director, Assistant Director of Administration, and Director of Administration. The City of Monroe had a fiscal year budget surplus during 11 of Barnes’ 13 years as Director of Administration.
David Barnes adds, “I now feel it is time for me to let younger men and women with new ideas and more energy serve as leaders for the City of Monroe. With retirement, I plan to spend more time with my twin grandchildren, fishing, hunting, golfing, working at the farm, and more time with my wife traveling to visit relatives and taking long cruises. And, my honey do list is growing daily!”
ROWELL NAMED INTERIM DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION
Mayor Jamie Mayo has named City of Monroe Director of Accounting Stacey Rowell, CPA, Interim Director of Administration. Rowell has worked for the City of Monroe for a total of 13 years (one year as an Accountant, and twelve years as Director of Accounting). The City of Monroe has produced a fiscal year surplus for 11 of her 12 years as Director of Accounting.
Stacey Rowell says, “I want to thank the Mayor for this opportunity. It is an honor and pleasure to be able to serve the citizens of Monroe in this new capacity. The Mayor has a great department head staff, and I look forward to being a part of the team.”
