Fire at City Hall Annex South on Jackson Street causes Temporary Relocation of Services
At approximately 8:46 pm Tuesday, April 25, the Monroe Fire Department was dispatched to a fire that broke out at the City Hall Annex South, located at 3901 Jackson Street. Fire personnel were able to contained and the fire and have it under control by 9:30 pm. They stayed on the scene to deal with hot spots and to monitor the building while the smoke cleared. The cause of the fire is not known at this time and remains under investigation. There are no reported injuries.
The building houses approximately 54 personnel from the Monroe Police, Engineering, Administration, and Planning & Urban Development (PUD) departments.
Mayor Jamie Mayo comments, “We are very thankful that no one was injured. We applaud the quick response by the Monroe Fire Department to get the fire under control. Our entire team is working to have temporary work stations operational within 24 hours. As we work out the logistics for this temporary relocation of services, we ask the public to be patient with the short- term inconvenience this may cause. Our goal will be to work as hard as we can, as quickly as we can, to restore operations to normal.”
