CITY OF MONROE
NO. 12,147

The following Ordinance was offered by Harvey who moved for its adoption and was seconded by Ezernack:

AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING A REAPPORTIONMENT PLAN FOR MONROE CITY COUNCIL DISTRICTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE 2020 CENSUS OF POPULATION AND APPROPRIATE FEDERAL AND STATE LAWS, AND SECTION 2-02 OF THE HOME RULE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF MONROE AND FURTHER PROVIDING WITH RESPECT THERETO:

WHEREAS, reapportionment of City Council districts is required after each decennial census, and

WHEREAS, the City of Monroe contains five council districts from which one council member is elected from each district, and

WHEREAS, such reapportionment plans must meet all Federal and State requirements, including pre-clearance by the United States Department of Justice under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, and

WHEREAS, City Council Members have examined the current apportionment plan, with the assistance of fully qualified demographers and planners, and determined that the current apportionment plan must be reapportioned.

NOW THEREFORE, be it ordained by City Council of Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, that the plan of reapportionment attached  to this ordinance is hereby adopted, subject to proper public hearing, public access, and proper advertising.

This ordinance was INTRODUCED on the 14th day of  December, 2022.

NOTICED PUBLISHED on the 19th day of  December, 2022.

This Ordinance having been submitted in writing, introduced and published, was then submitted to a final vote as a whole, the vote thereon being as follows:

AYES: Harvey, Ezernack, Marshall & Dawson

NAYS: Woods

ABSENT: None.

And the Ordinance was declared ADOPTED on the 27th day of  December, 2022
